Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

For my Final Major Project at University I decided to design and make for the concept of a theatrical rendition of the Roald Dahl classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I created a series of designs for Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas, linking it in with my Dissertation on 'Masculinity in Menswear', exploring a more gender-fluid approach to the character of Willy Wonka, while the Oompa Loompas were inspired by the Bauhaus ballet costumes and various candy sweets.

These costumes explored many specialist areas I had previously explored in university, such as tailoring and millinery, as well as using new techniques and materials, such as foam wig making and velvet tailoring.
