The Nutcracker Ballet

The Nutcracker ballet costume was made as part of my Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at York College.

I made two epaulettes and a circle skirt which I screen printed using my own hand-drawn design. I then free-machine embroidered around this to add texture and sparkle.

I sourced a leotard which I embellished with braid and buttons, and a long skirt which I folded and tacked gathered netting to. This temporary structure allowed for the petticoat to be dismantled so the resources could be used again in the future.
